Osmania University in collaboration with Telangana State Academy of Skills and Training (TSAT), Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication (ITE&C) organised National Space Day 2024 on Tuesday. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Touching Lives While Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga.”
Prof P Chandrasekhar, Principal, UCE, presided over the event as the President, while Prof. P. Naveen Kumar served as the Convener. The distinguished gathering included Dr P Sreelatha, Scientist/Engineer G Head, HRDD, MSA, VSSC, ISRO, P Pradeep Kumar, Deputy Head, ASCD, Digital Systems Group, Avionics Entity, VSSC, ISRO; Ashok, Retired IAS and former Collector of Adilabad, and E. Gattiah, President of Citizens Council, as guests of honour.
Prof P Naveen Kumar emphasised the significance of National Space Day and underscored Osmania University’s collaborations with ISRO. He inspired students to explore the diverse activities undertaken by ISRO organizations across the country.
Prof P Chandrasekhar congratulated Prof P Naveen Kumar for organising the event to mark the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission. He highlighted the university’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities that support students in space research.
P Pradeep Kumar expressed his delight at being part of the celebrations and highlighted the pivotal role of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai in India’s space technology development. He emphasised ISRO’s global leadership in space research, citing achievements such as the discovery of water on the moon, the first landing on the moon’s South Pole, and Mars missions. Encouraging students to think critically, he presented a comprehensive overview of ISRO’s past, present, and future endeavors.
Dr P Sreelatha also emphasised the importance of National Space Day and detailed the activities of various ISRO and research centers. She highlighted opportunities for students and researchers to collaborate with ISRO and encouraged early engagement through programs for students from Class 9 onwards.
E Gattiah extended his best wishes to ISRO and felicitated the dignitaries with the Dr Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Award for 2024.
