Bharatiya Janata Legislative Party (BJLP) leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy stated that the historic judgement given by the High Court is like a slap in the face to the Congress government. Maheshwar Reddy said that they welcome the judgment given by Telangana High Court on the disqualification petitions filed on party defection of MLAs.
Maheshwar Reddy said that the High Court Bench which heard the disqualification application of the MLAs filed by the BJP directed the Secretary of the Assembly Speaker’s office to take a decision within four weeks. He said that earlier, they petitioned the Court to take action against the MLAs who defected to the party.
Maheshwar Reddy said that it is a good development that Minister Ponnam Prabhakar welcomed the High Court verdict. This matter should be brought to the attention of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge and a decision should be taken to respect the verdict.
He said that in a democratic system, everyone has the responsibility to respect the judgment given by the court, the Constitution and the laws of the land.
Maheshwar Reddy said, “In the past, when Congress party MLAs were accused of defection, the Congress party fought against it. When Revanth Reddy was the PCC chief, if MLAs switched parties, Revanth Reddy gave a call to play a death drum beat in front of their houses. However, the CM is now inducting MLAs of other parties into his party unethically. How reasonable is this?” he asked.
Maheshwar Reddy said that the Congress has promised in its manifesto that MLAs who defect from the party will be disqualified from being members of the Assembly. However, why is action not being taken against MLAs who joined the Congress from other parties?
The decisions of the Indira Congress are not implemented here! The situation in the Congress party is like ‘Indira Congress versus RR (Revanth Reddy) Congress’. There is a gap between the AICC and RR Congress in the State. It seems that RR Congress is going against the decision of AICC. In the case of the PAC chairman, the Congress government has acted contrary to tradition.
