Telugu Desam Party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu has demanded immediate removal of Palnadu district SP Ravi Shankar Reddy for his failure to control the riot and arson in Macherla. He alleged that the Palnadu SP helped the anti-social elements, which carried out attacks on TDP in Macherla. “The SP is acting like ruling party leaders,” Naidu alleged.
Responding to the Macherla incident on Saturday, SP Ravi Shankar had clarified that there had been no incidents of violence. No evidence was found to prove that there were people belonging to rival factions or hired killers in the seventh ward of Macherla, he said.
Chandrababu Naidu was irate over the SP’s stand, who alleged that Ravi Shankar was trying to downplay the incident. Chandrababu said that even a home guard worked with dedication, but SP Ravi Shankar neglected his duties.
Meanwhile, TDP politburo member Varla Ramaiah asked as to why his party leaders were not allowed to visit Macherla to meet the victims of the ‘government-sponsored violence’ there. He wondered how the YSRC activists were allowed to carry lethal weapons, bottles filled with petrol and other weapons, as a cordon and search operation was conducted in Macherla. Observing that the violence in Macherla was certainly government-sponsored, he said that the victims were of the opinion that Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Seetharamanjaneyulu and Superintendent of Police Ravi Shankar Reddy instigated violence.
