Parineeti Chopra’s film Amar Singh Chamkila is receiving a lot of attention and appreciation. The actor hasn’t been in the spotlight for a performance, though, for a while. Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue, Parineeti’s most recent release from 2023, did not go well at the box office.
In a recent interview, Parineeti was questioned about her past blunders and the kinds of movies she chose; she believed she had followed a lot of incorrect advice.
She said, “I think I heard a lot of wrong advice. And I did a lot of films that were perceived to be the correct thing to do—to be commercial, to be bankable, to be a sellable actor—but were not necessarily the right fit for me. In fact, I am guilty of listening to that noise and succumbing to it. I didn’t actually hold my own. If I had stuck to my own and listened to my gut instinct, I would probably have made fewer mistakes.”
Talking about the kind of advice she took, Parineeti said, “You know, there were lots of people who were giving me advice and saying that, see, that actress is doing that. You should also do it. That actor is wearing this. You can also go and wear it. And I used to think that I didn’t know anything about this industry. I need to listen to these people. And I went ahead and did it. But that’s not the right way. You know all those ups and downs have happened because I was trying and testing. But I think I have a better understanding of what I have to do today.”
The Ishaqzaade actress stated that she and Raghav had crossed paths during filming. He knew a lot about the history of Chamkila and Amarjot, being a Punjabi. He would frequently say, “My God, you’re doing this film! It will be extremely popular.” She remembered saying to him, “Oh my gosh, please don’t ruin it.”
Parineeti also revealed that her family was shocked to see her perform live on set because it wasn’t the typical studio dubbing procedure.
