The Deputy Director of Krishna District Social Welfare Department, Shaik Shahid Babu, has requested people to attend the inauguration of two prestigious monuments, a 125-foot statue of Dr BR Ambedkar and Smriti Vanam, located in the heart of Vijayawada city.
The State government has constructed these monuments on the premises of Swarajya Maidan, and the inaugural ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 19.
As part of the ‘Samajika Samata Sankalpa’ programme, DD Shahid Babu and Dalit leaders paid tributes to Dr Ambekdar’s statue at the Lakshmi Talkies Centre in Machilipatnam on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahid Babu said that the two monuments were constructed in 18.81 acres in the heart of the city. For that, the State government has spent Rs.400 crore, he said. Besides the Ambedkar statue and Smriti Vanam, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will inaugurate a multi-convention hall with a seating capacity of 3,000 people, an open theatre, library, and meditation hall, he added.
He announced that a marathon would take place on Thursday, from the Koneru Centre to Lakshmi Talkies Centre (Ambedkar Statue) in Machilipatnam. In addition, 27,432 flex banners with people’s signatures were displayed across the district.
Dalit Joint Action Committee chairman and AP Christian Minority Corporation member J Anand Babu, leaders B Rama Rao, G Vidya Sagar, Municipal Co Option member M Tulasamma and others were present.
