Telangana Chief Secretary’s directive was clear—women IAS officers were to visit Gurukul schools and even stay overnight at girls’ hostels. A move meant to ensure first-hand experience of the conditions, bridge the gap, and prove that ‘People’s Officers’ are, in fact, for the people. But guess what? Not everyone is lining up to pack an overnight bag. For all the grand talk of being connected to the grassroots, some
officers seem quite comfortable in their airconditioned bubbles. Now all eyes are on officers who claimed that differently abled officers cannot do field work. Interestingly physically fit officers conspicuously avoided the visit, sparking murmurs about fancy taglines they give themselves. If stepping into the field is such a task, maybe it’s time to rethink the slogans.
