Podu: Officials told to hold Grama Sabhas

Mulugu Ditrict Collector S Krishna Aditya has asked officials to conduct grama sabhas pertaining to podu lands’ survey efficiently and strive to remove misconceptions from the minds of people about Podu.

In some villages, people are of the view that the government will give them lands even if they resort to practice podu cultivation afresh. Pental action would be taken against such individuals besides cancelling their pattas and suspending implementation of Rytu Bandhu to them.

He was reviewing the progress of Podu lands survey at the field level with ITDA Project Officer Ankit, DFO Krishna Goud, special officers, Tahsildars, MPDOs, FROs of Yeturunagaram, Tadwai, Govindaraopet, Mulugu and Venkatapur mandals.

In habitations where the Podu lans survey is through, grama sabhas should be held from Tuesday to clear doubts of vaillgers. Prior to conducting the Grama Sabha, it should be given wide publicity by beating of drums. Further, he insisted the videographing of the entire grama sabha proceedings. Also, attendance of those who attended the grama sabha should be noted down.

Forests constituted 80 per cent of the area of the district. Therefore, it is the duty of every individual to protect the forests. Ecological balance is linked to conservation of forests.
As per the new Panchayat Raj Act, it is the duty of the sarpanch to alert the district administration if anyone resorts to Podu cultivation afresh.

The balance of survey of the Podu lands in some mandals should be completed by Tuesday. The mandal level special officers should monitor the progress from time to time online, he said. He appreciated the officials for having completed the Podu survey in record time of 25 days.
