DGP Anjani Kumar said that the Police, the Excise Department, the Railways Railways and the Transport Department should coordinate to stop the transport of illegal things into Telangana from the Northern States.

DGP Anjani held a review meeting on Saturday at the DGP’s office on preventing the flow of illegal liquor from other states.

CID Additional DG Mahesh Bhagwat revealed that 27,883 cases were registered against illegal liquor joints in Telangana after 2014. He said that cases have also been registered against 161 people who smuggled liquor from other states.

He said that non-duty paid liquor is being illegally transported to TS mainly from Delhi, Chandigarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh.

The PD Act has also been used against 15 people who often commit illegal acts. However, compared to the past, prohibition excise cases have come down significantly.

Prohibition Excise Commissioner Sarfraz Ahmed said that due to the difference in prices, illegal liquor is coming from Goa, Haryana and Chandigarh. It has become an organised crime.

He said that this is having a significant impact on the state’s revenues and that tourists from Karnataka and Goa are bringing liquor illegally and it is also coming through inter-state buses and tourist vehicles.

In addition to this, it was explained that there is a problem on the Nagpur–Ballarsha and Nizamabad railway lines.

DGP Anjani Kumar said that illegal liquor manufacturing and gudumbas have been prevented in the state, but the illegal transportation of liquor from other states should also be stopped.

It was stated that action is being taken against the smugglers of illegal liquor on the basis of information provided by some people, and further coordination between departments can prevent illegal smuggling.

Agreeing to the suggestion made by the DGP, Additional DG of Railways Shivdhar Reddy said that the Government Railway Police will also provide full cooperation. Police, Transport, Railway Police and State Police have been asked to join hands to prevent illegal liquor trafficking.

Intelligence DIG Karthikeya said that along with border states, they have identified those who transport illegal liquor from Punjab, Chandigarh, Goa, Delhi and other states and prepared a list of them.

State Prohibition and Excise Commissioner Sarfraz Ahmed, Additional DG Railways Shivdhar Reddy, CID Division ADG Mahesh Bhagwat, Law and Order ADG Sanjay Kumar Jain, IG Shah Nawaz Kasim, Intelligence DIG Karthikeya and others attended the meeting.
