Police officials directed to take steps to curb road accidents

Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal hasdirected the district police officials to take all needed steps to check road accidents.

The SP visited some of the accident-prone areas on the highway from Medarametla to Santhamaguluru on Tuesday. The SP directed the officials to install warning boards, speed breakers, and drums filled with sand with radium stickers pasted in zigzags at the places where road accidents are likely to occur and speed breakers should be installed properly on the approach roads merging the highway.

On the occasion, the SP said that since the formation of the new Bapatla district, road safety has been given priority and strict safety measures were being taken on the national and state highways passing through the district to prevent road accidents. “We have already taken various precautionary measures and have been able to reduce the deaths due to road accidents by 25%. By creating awareness among motorists accidents can be reduced,” the SP said.

He said that block spots were identified on the highway at Medarametla, Addanki, Ballikurava, and Santhamaguluru police station limits and he discussed the matter with the officials of the police stations. The SP directed the officials that zebra crossings must be drawn in school zones and highway crossings for pedestrians and appropriate signboards should be installed in those areas.

Blinking lights should be installed especially in the places near the villages and within the highway should be installed in a zigzag method at the places where petrol filling stations and dhabas are located. Blinking lights should be installed at the places where the vehicles on the highway take U-turns. The cross-cutting places, and the high speed of the vehicles should be regulated to ensure that collision of vehicles will not take place. The SP asked the officials to install drums with radium stickers to avoid accidents.

The SP inspected an HP petrol filling station which belongs to the police department and examined the records and the CCTVs. ITEM 4Bapatla SDPO A Srinivas Rao, DSB Inspector A Srinivas, CCS Inspector M Murali Krishna, Addanki Circle Inspector M Roshaiah, Addanki Police Station Inspector A Rajamohan, and Santamagulur Circle Inspector A Shiva accompanied the SP.
