The Andaman Nicobar Port Blair municipal team visited Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday to study best sanitation practices. They enquired about the programmes being implemented in the GHMC limits. Commissioner Ronald Rose held a meeting with them.
The Commissioner said, “For the development of the city, we have focused on increasing greenery, town planning, making it a clean and green city along with sanitation management.” He has explained them with a power-point presentation on the development in the GHMC limits.
As part of solid waste management project management, door-to-door garbage collection, segregation, C&D waste processing plants, waste recycling material and making compost from wet garbage etc were explained to them through presentation.
He said that every day garbage collection is done from every house in the city by Swachh autos, and every day 7,500 metric tons of garbage is collected and moved to Jawahar Nagar dump yard, and vermicompost is made with that. He said that another dump yard was being readied in Pyara Nagar.
He said that two construction waste (C&D) plants have been set up and two more plants are going to be set up. The GHMC has taken up construction of flyovers, roads, other infrastructure, social security schemes with the cooperation of the State government for the development of the city.
He said that through the Annapurna food Scheme in GHMC, meals are being provided for Rs 5 per plate and 30,000 people are being served Annapurna meals every day through 139 centres in the city.
Regarding the health of the poor, 284 basti dispensaries are working under the GHMC, how the sources of income are generated and the details of the income and expenditure were explained to them.
