Bhadrachalam Sri Sitaramachandraswamy temple executive officer Rama Devi said that a six-kg silver brick belonging to the temple deity went missing and maintained that efforts were under way to trace the silver brick.
If the silver bricks remained untraced, the cost of the brick would be recovered from the temple staff and disciplinary action would be taken against those who caused its disappearance. She said that jewellery verification officer Anjani Devi is verifying the jewellery. A clear picture would emerge after she submits her report, the temple EO said.
A full scale verification of the jewellery of the deity is under way after 2009.
The temple deity has 67.774 kg of gold and 980.68 kg of silver. Once the verification is through, the temple staff taking responsibility of safe-keeping the jewellery would have no problems at all.
The excess silver would be converted into gold bonds and deposited in banks, she said.
