“People who live in glass houses should not throw stones”, goes a saying. The truth behind this is currently at play in Andhra Pradesh. After the Model Code of Conduct kicked in, senior IAS officer and former State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has used his forum, Citizens for Democracy, to the hilt to hit back at the ruling party. Questioning the support of volunteers for political campaigns, he even lodged complaints. Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena has since suspended around 100 volunteers. This prompted the ruling party leaders to allege that Ramesh Kumar, through his forum, was acting like TDP chief Chandrababu’s B team. They alleged that Ramesh had forsaken constitutional values and morals for the purpose. As SEC, he had failed on all fronts during the conduct of the elections to local bodies in the state, they maintained.
