BJP’s silence harms its interests
Is the BJP’s silence over the controversy on free power supply to farmers meaningful or will it become a political disadvantage?
TPCC President Revanth Reddy’s comments on free power to the farm sector have become a big controversy between the BRS and the Congress. The BRS is trying to squeeze the maximum out of Revanth’s comments on free power to the farm sector.
When supplying free power to farms has become a controversy between the BRS and the Congress, the BJP which is hoping of coming to power in Telangana is maintaining silence. It appears that the BJP does not want to get involved in the free power controversy between the BRS and the Congress as it will gain BJP nothing if it supports either the BRS or the Congress. If the BJP criticises Revanth’s comments it will look like supporting the BRS. If it supports the BRS argument the Congress may say that the BRS and the BJP have colluded. In this situation, the BJP cannot take any stand on the free power supply to the farm sector.
TPCC President Revanth Reddy’s main intention behind his comments on the free power supply to farms was to expose the corruption of the BRS government.
Prime Minister Modi described the BRS government as the most corrupt one in the country during his Warangal public meeting.
In this situation, if the BJP also criticises Revanth’s comments on free power the Congress will say that the BJP is supporting the corruption of the BRS government. At the same time, it will expose the double standards of the BJP about the BRS government’s corruption.
If it supports Revanth’s comments politically it will help the Congress more than the BJP. BJP leaders think that by maintaining silence it may gain something out of the controversy between the BRS and the Congress. So far no BJP leader has opened his mouth on this controversy.
When the Congress is gradually picking up it has given a weapon to the BRS through its state unit president Revanth’s comments on free power for farms.
The controversy over the free power issue indicates that the BRS and the Congress are going to be the main rivals in the coming Assembly elections.
Political observers said that by maintaining silence the BJP has given a chance to the BRS and the Congress to edge it out.
