Double bedroom beneficiaries flocked to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) again on Monday for Praja Vani programme. More than 100 beneficiaries from Hyderabad staged a protest at the GHMC head office.
They said that the previous government allotted 2BHKs in Muraharipally at Shamirpet more than an year back. But they do not have basic amenities like power, water and other needs.
Faiz Unnisa from Musheerabad said, “When they give locks to us, the officials said told us that we can stay there. But without completing the work they gave 2BHKs to us.
Also, for two months the security personnel are stopping us at the gate of 2BHK apartments saying work is going on.
I do not know the reason to stop us when work is going on. However, we could not see any workers inside the apartments.”
“They are saying that schools are already open, so if the authorities allow the beneficiaries to stay there, we would be grateful to the government officials.”
Taheer Begum from Musheerabad said, “I am paying Rs 10,000 per month for my room rent. I was allotted a two BHK house an year ago. If the previous government or present government completed the rest of the works in those plots, I would have saved more than Rs 1 lakh in a year.”
A Lakshmi from Domalguda said, “Thousands of poor people were allotted apartments at Muraharipally. We do not have proper water, power, lifts and other basic needs. We got a bathroom and other rooms. Except those four walls of a few rooms, the officials have not done any work for one year.”
As many people reached there, the hall turned full and applicants were seated on the floor in the GHMC office. They started coming around 8 am and they stayed till the Praja Vani was completed in the GHMC.
