Preparations are underway at a brisk pace for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Amaravati, where the PM will relaunch the capital region’s development works. The Andhra Pradesh government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a successful event on May 2.

Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana visited Amaravati to oversee the preparation works on Wednesday. Accompanied by Guntur Range IG Sarvashresth Tripathi and District SP Satish Kumar, the Minister reviewed the condition of approach roads leading to the main event venue. He spent nearly two hours inspecting the key routes and coordinating with officials.

Addressing the media, Minister Narayana said that over 5,000 crore had been spent on Amaravati’s development between 2014 and 2019. However, the previous government’s indecisiveness left the capital project in limbo, turning the area into a neglected zone. He stated that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, upon returning to power, immediately directed the revival of the capital works. The government has approved tenders worth64,000 crore, of which works worth `41,000 crore have already been tendered and begun. These works will now be formally relaunched by the Prime Minister, according to a decision taken by the Chief Minister.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at Gannavaram Airport at 3 PM on May 2. From there, he will proceed to Amaravati and participate in a 1.1-kilometre-long roadshow before reaching the public meeting venue. The event will be held from 4 PM to 5 PM.

“An estimated five lakh people are expected to attend the gathering. Accordingly, elaborate arrangements are being made,” said Minister Narayana. Eleven designated parking zones have been identified for the incoming vehicles. Eight roads have been identified to facilitate smooth access to the public meeting venue. These include two roads from Mangalagiri, one from Tadepalli, one from the West Bypass, two from Prakasam Barrage, and one each from Tadikonda and Harishchandrapuram
Traffic management measures are being put in place to prevent congestion.

The Police Department has inspected the roads and instructed that all potholes be filled. Narayana has directed CRDA officials to complete all necessary roadworks within the next two days based on police recommendations.
