The Government of Andhra Pradesh is set to establish a price stabilisation fund with a corpus of Rs 500 crore.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the ministers held on Monday, presided over by Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar. Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu, and relevant officials also attended the meeting.
The ministers discussed several critical issues, including the stabilisation of prices for red gram, rice, tomatoes, and onions. Minister Manohar reviewed the prices of these commodities and their current stock levels.
Speaking to the media, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar stated that special outlets have been established in Rythu Bazaars to help regulate rice prices. Additionally, red gram prices have been managed by opening counters that sell the commodity at subsidised rates. Manohar noted that the recent increase in edible oil prices was a result of the Centre raising the import tax.
To address the rising costs of palm oil, the government is selling it at a subsidised price of Rs 110 through special counters. Discussions have also been held with importers and wholesale traders to stabilise commodity prices, he revealed.
Manohar confirmed that rice, red gram, and sugar are currently being sold at subsidised prices in Rythu Bazaars. He added that necessary measures have been taken to bring down onion prices.
