Andhra Pradesh State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Daggubati Purandeswari, has disclosed that the party is gearing up with approximately 2,000 potential candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly Constituency elections. Speaking to reporters, she said that the party’s leadership is actively soliciting opinions regarding the potential candidates across all 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies.
Purandeswari held a press conference at the party’s office in Vijayawada on Sunday, where she elaborated on the outcomes of a two-day series of party meetings conducted in the city. During these sessions, BJP president JP Nadda emphasised the importance of gauging public sentiment, as reflected in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Janmat Lekha’, or public opinion.
In preparation for the forthcoming elections, Purandeswari mentioned that discussions have taken place with all 26 district party presidents, gathering opinions from around 50,000 persons. Additionally, party leaders will engage directly with the public to understand their concerns.
After collecting feedback from the people, Purandeswari noted that this information would be relayed to the party leadership. The BJP’s Andhra Pradesh unit is committed to aligning its strategies with the directives of the national leadership.
Amidst the considerable interest shown by around 2,000 potential candidates for election participation, Purandeswari explained that the party’s leadership will conduct a thorough selection process. Ultimately, three to five candidates will be shortlisted for each constituency before the final list is announced following review by the Parliamentary Committee.
Regarding candidate selection, Purandeswari said that while a preliminary list has been prepared for all 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha segments, deliberations continue to identify the most suitable candidates for each area. The finalised list will be submitted to the party leadership within two days, after which the party will devise its election strategy based on these decisions.
