As the 72nd Miss World pageant unfolds in the vibrant city of Hyderabad, contestants from around the globe are not just showcasing beauty and elegance — they are bringing powerful personal stories that reflect strength, compassion, and vision. From war-torn Ukraine to the heart of Silicon Valley, from the joyful streets of Vietnam to the soulful resilience of Bangladesh, these young women are redefining what it means to wear a crown. In their own words, they open up about dreams nurtured since childhood, the battles they’ve fought within and around them and the causes they now champion with unwavering purpose. The Pioneer brings to you four inspiring voices from the Miss World stage, united by a common message — beauty is only as powerful as the heart and purpose behind it.

The culture here has captured my heart — Maybe T’wood is next!
I was born and raised in Silicon Valley near San Francisco, where my dream of Miss World began at just seven years old. Now, at 27, after two decades of dedication and heart, I’m honoured to represent the United States. Maybe after this, I’ll finally have time to look for my dear husband — something my friends joke about often!

My biggest inspiration is my younger brother, who is autistic. Balancing his care with pageant preparation hasn’t been easy, but it’s kept me focused. I want to build a more inclusive world — for him, for future generations, and for everyone who feels unseen. Being a good big sister is something I hold close to my heart.

There have been moments of doubt and imposter syndrome, but I remind myself that Miss World is about purpose, not perfection. Even if I don’t win, I’ve already gained so much — friendship, sisterhood and lasting memories. Every woman here belongs on this stage.

Beyond pageants, I’m an entertainment journalist, actor and model. Interviewing Hollywood stars and taking on diverse roles has shaped me for this journey — each step leading to this moment.

Hyderabad has been incredible. It reminds me of Silicon Valley, but with a beautiful blend of tradition and technology. Telangana shows us how to grow without losing our roots — something I truly admire. During tough times, I held on to one mantra: Never give up. I believe we’re always one decision away from becoming who we’re meant to be. If I’d given up, I wouldn’t be here.

To every young girl out there — don’t give up, don’t stay stuck. If you’re waiting for a sign, this is it.
I’ve loved my time in Hyderabad, especially staying at the Trident and exploring the city’s vibrant food — the spicy South Indian dishes surprised me, especially the fiery peri-peri potatoes!

The culture here is warm and welcoming. The hospitality, music, and dance have captured my heart — and yes, I’m even learning a few moves. Who knows? Maybe Tollywood is next!

India feels like my second home
I’m 22 years old, and representing Vietnam at Miss World 2025 in Hyderabad has been such a joyful and heartwarming experience. The opening ceremony was a beautiful celebration of cultures — the energy, the dancers, the stunning outfits. I was thrilled when people said they loved my dance! The entire atmosphere was full of life.

India feels like my second home. I didn’t feel homesick at all — the kindness here has wrapped around me like a warm hug. Every day, I’ve been receiving gifts, enjoying delicious food, and making new friends who feel like family. We cheer each other on, laugh together and support one another. I feel safe and seen here. Trying South Indian food was an adventure! I loved pani puri — someone even taught me how to eat it the right way. And biryani was such a surprise — the long rice is so different from the short rice we eat in Vietnam. But rice gives me energy and I always say: “Eat more rice and stay stronger!” I even tried lamb for the first time — juicy and delicious!

Beauty with a Purpose reminds me of our Miss World anthem, “One World, One Dream.” It’s about unity, love and building peace by helping each other. That’s the kind of beauty I believe in — the one that comes from kindness and courage.

To every girl out there: follow your dream. Even when it’s hard, don’t give up. Your dream gives you the strength to keep moving. I followed mine — and now I get to share it with the world.

War took our dreams — I’m here to help rebuild them
I’m 20 years old, and being in India — especially here in Hyderabad — has been a truly beautiful experience. It’s my first time in the country, and I’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness of the people and the richness of Telangana’s culture. The opening ceremony of Miss World 2025 moved me deeply. Watching girls perform Bharatanatyam was so powerful and graceful, and I felt so energised that I didn’t even feel tired by the end of the night. The food, the morning air, the vibrant cultural outfits — everything here is full of life.

But my journey to this stage has not been easy.

I grew up in Ukraine, and when the war began, I stayed. I witnessed heartbreak and destruction — my home and my college, the State Tax University of Ukraine, were both hit by missiles. It was devastating. At just 19, I was crowned Miss Ukraine and that gave me a platform. Now, I use that voice to share our story with the world — to show our strength, our kindness, and our determination to rebuild.

Representing Ukraine on the Miss World stage is more than a title — it’s a mission. I want to help rebuild my university, the place that shaped me and bring back the students who deserve a future. I’m now the global ambassador for the Rebuild State Tax University project and I’m calling on investors, sponsors and anyone willing to help us rise again.

For me, Beauty with a Purpose means using this opportunity to restore lost hope. The war didn’t just take homes — it took education, stability, and dreams. But I believe we can bring those back.
To every young girl, I say: Be yourself. Be proud. Enjoy every moment — because life like this comes only once.

— Maria Melnychenko, Miss World Ukraine

I’m soaking up every moment I have here
At 27, representing Bangladesh on the Miss World stage is a dream come true — but it’s also the result of deep inner work. My journey hasn’t been easy. I used to be terrified of public speaking, too nervous to even mingle in groups. To overcome it, I pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I went to a radio station in Bangladesh just to face my fear and I kept practising until I could speak with confidence. That’s why my project Young Mind Matters is so close to my heart — because I’ve lived through the challenges of mental health and come out stronger.

Beauty with a Purpose isn’t just a slogan — it’s the core of who I am. Mental health is the root of so many problems in our society. If we can take care of our minds, we can create stronger, more loving communities. I feel resilient, confident and most importantly, I’ve learned to love myself from within. That’s where true beauty begins. And if you’re wondering about skincare — honestly, drink more water and stay moisturised. It really works!

Hyderabad has been such a warm and welcoming experience. From the moment I arrived, I was shown so much hospitality and kindness. I’m enjoying the food — it’s spicy, yes, but so delicious that I’m already worried I might gain a little weight! The culture of Telangana touched me from the very first day, and I’m soaking up every moment I have here. To all the young girls out there — believe me, I was just like you. And now I’m here. If I can do it, so can you. Trust your journey. Don’t blame yourself. Your time is coming.
