Rachakonda SHE Teams caught 117 hooligans in 15 days on the instructions given by Rachakonda Commissioner DS Chauhan.  Under the directions of Rachakonda Women Safety Wing, SHE Teams conducted counselling for eve-teasers at Rachakonda camp office on Tuesday.
SHE Teams arrested 117 people (Majors – 47, Minors – 70) who were harassing women in Rachakonda Commissionerate. They were counselled by Bhumika Women’s Collective (NGO) at LB Nagar CP camp office (Women Safety Wing Office) in the presence of family members.
From November 16 to 30, SHE Teams Rachakonda conducted 47 awareness programmes and educated about 8,275 people about women’s laws, their rights and crimes. They also conducted decoy operations in Metro trains and caught five people travelling in the female compartment and got tem fined by Metro station officials.
SHE Team Kushaiguda conducted a decoy operation in the Kushaiguda area and arrested 22 hooligans who were harassing women and girls on the road and registered cases against them.
DCP Usha Vishwanath said that Rachakonda SHE Teams are not going to let go of thugs who harass girls and women should complain fearlessly. Decoy operations are being carried out at bus stands, railway stations, Metro stations, schools, colleges, vegetable markets and public places in mufti, and the antics of the hooligans who stalk girls and women are taken as evidence and presented in the court and counselled in the presence of their parents.
“About 135 complaints were received from November 16 to 30”,said DCP Usha. She said that the investigation has been completed after taking up the inquiry on the complaints. Out of the complaints received, 24 were harassed by phones, 30 were harassed through WhatsApp calls and messages, 18 were harassed through social media apps, 63 were directly harassed. Among them, criminal cases were four, petty cases were 47, and counselling was given to 68 people.
One of the important cases is that of a woman residing in LB Nagar works in a private company. She has a husband and two children. The accused working in electronic media started harassing her physically and mentally for the last seven years in the name of love. He threatened her with dire consequences if she told the same to anyone. As a result, the victim contacted LB Nagar police station who immediately responded and took the accused into custody. The police officials registered a criminal case in LB Nagar police station and arrested him.
