The two accused in the sensational gang rape, which took place in the Repalle railway station in the combined Guntur district on April 30, 2022, were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the IV Additional District and Sessions court judge R Sharat Babu on Wednesday.
SP Vakul Jindal said that rape victim was four month pregnant and reached Repalle railway station by a train. The family wanted to go to Nagayalanka in search of livelihood. Since the family missed the last bus, they slept in the railway station itself.
At around midnight, the accused Paluboina Vijay Krishna (20) and Paluduri Nikhil (25) and another juvenile picked up a quarrel with the husband of the rape victim.
The trio thrashed the man and dragged the rape victim to the end of the railway station and gang raped her. In the meantime, the husband of the rape victim rushed to the police station which is located near to the railway station and informed the police.
The police immediately rushed to the railway station and shifted her to a hospital. Later the police identified the accused and arrested the trio. The rape victim belonged to Dalit community and a resident of Yerragondapalem in Prakasam district.
The police registered a case under sections Cr.No:123/2022 u/s 376(D), 394, 307 r/w 34 IPC against the accused. Bapatla DSP A Srinivasa Rao was appointed as special officer to monitor the trial of the case. The police submitted the charge sheet within 15 days, the SP said, adding that the SP himself monitors the trial.
The SP appreciated and presented appreciation certificates to Repalle DSP T.Muralikrishna, Disha DSP U.Ravi Chandra, and the then Repalle Town Police Station Inspector V.Suryanarayana, who monitored the court trail with proper evidence and Court Monitoring Staff ASI 2884. Special Public Prosecutor N Sharadamani succeeded in presenting evidence and proving the case and the SP appreciated her.
