Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena has announced that all eligible individuals and potential voters who will reach the age of 18 by January 1, 2023, can now register in the electoral rolls. The registration period will run from October 17 to November 30, 2023.
Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat at Velagapudin on Monday, Mukesh Kumar Meena underscored the importance of providing accurate information in all sections of the relevant Form-6, 7, 8, and 8A during the application process.
To ensure a fair and comprehensive electoral roll, the final list of registered voters will be published on January 5, 2024. The Election Commission of India has scheduled an annual summary revision with reference to January 1, 2024, as the qualifying date. As part of this process, booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house verification from July 21 to August 21, 2023. BLOS representatives will visit every household to verify the electors’ details with the head of the family.
During the house-to-house verification, BLOs will also collect information regarding unenrolled eligible individuals, prospective electors, cases of multiple entries, deceased or permanently moved electors, and corrections to electoral roll entries.
In order to ensure efficient and accessible polling stations, a physical verification of the polling station locations will be conducted. This verification will determine if the buildings meet the necessary criteria established by the Election Commission for smooth election operations. A senior officer appointed by the District Election Officer (DEO) will oversee the physical verification process. Polling stations with more than 1,500 voters will be rationalised, and efforts will be made to group family members and neighbors in the same section while maintaining uniformity in addresses for electoral roll and EPICs (Electors Photo Identity Cards).
The Chief Electoral Officer stated that standardisation of elector addresses will include fields such as House Number/Flat Number/Door Number, Ward Number, Street, Area/Locality Village/Town/City, District, and more. In cases where no house numbers provided by the Panchayat/Municipal authorities are available, a notional number will be assigned in the roll, ensuring the voters are grouped by house number in the roll.
