Rajiv Gandhi University Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT)-Basar in-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof V Venkata Ramana announced on Wednesday an ex gratia of Rs 1.50 lakh to the kin of the student, Jadav Bablu (17) who committed suicide in the hostel room on Tuesday. The in-charge Vice-Chancellor assured the parents of the students in the RGUKT that the university authorities were taking steps to ensure that the students do not resort to suicide. He paid tributes to Jadav Bablu.

He assured the students that they can always contact him over e-mail if anyone of them were bullied by his or her classmates. A programme would be held with parents and students every week, he said. In fact, the authorities conducted an orientation course last week and a cultural programme on last Saturday. The university had appointed councillors too, he said.

The suicide by the students, the second one in as many months, left the students in shock. The Congress activists, led by party leader Srihari Rao, staged a protest at the Area Hospital in Nirmal where a post-mortem on the body of the student was conducted. On Wednesday too, the Congress and BJP activists protested, but the police intervened and thwarted the protests.
