Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal has said that Rs 5.99 crore worth of cash, gold and silver, liquor and other valuables had been seized in the district since the issuance of election notification on March 16.
The SP, flanked by Collector P Ranjit Basha, addressed the media here on Thursday. The SP said that across the district the police teams seized gold, silver and liquor worth Rs 5,99,94,577.
The police also arrested 562 people in various cases in the district in 79 cases. The SP and Collector appreciated that from Home Guard to DSP level officers, all worked efficiently to conduct the elections and the counting process peacefully in the district.
SP Vakul Jindal said that 4,523 people were bound over in 532 cases. He said that Rs 1,74,23,812 cash, 28,396 liters of liquor worth Rs 56,39,813, 913 grams gold worth Rs 67,16,492, 4.2 KG silver worth Rs 3,75,448 were seized since the issuance of notification to till June 6.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector Ranjit Basha said that polling on May 13 and counting on June 4 for one parliament and six assembly constituencies across the district were conducted smoothly and in a peaceful atmosphere. He said that no untoward incident took place anywhere in the district during the polling day, adding repolling was not needed at any polling stations.
