The police and excise officials have destroyed the ganja crop worth about Rs 5 crore at the Andhra and Odisha states border area.
The police said that on a tip-off, the police and excise officials conducted raids at Gurraluru, Kamalapodar, and Kurmanur villages. The ganja cultivation was taken up in about 40 acres of land. The officials found over 50,000 ganja plants in the fields and they destroyed them.
Since the influence of Maoists has come down, the police accelerated the raids in the area. The police said that earlier they used to hesitate to go to the areas, where ganja cultivation was being taken up, due to Maoists’ threat.
