Even though YS Sharmila is the Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief, her name is doing the rounds for a Rajya Sabha ticket from Telangana.
In January, Sharmila herself revealed during an official meeting with YSRTP leaders that the Congress had offered her a Rajya Sabha seat from Karnataka. As the Congress is in power in both Telangana and Karnataka her name has surfaced again for a Rajya Sabha ticket.
Political analysts believe that YS Sharmila needs to have an important post to drive home the message that the Congress is serious about AP.
There is hardly any chance for the immediate revival of the party during the Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh. Sharmila has already established her roots in Telangana through her YSRTP campaign. While she was not admitted into the Telangana unit of the
Congress, it is to be seen if she will be given a ticket from Telangana or Karnataka.It may be mentioned here that elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states will be held on
February 27. The Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced this on Monday.
The last date for filing nomination papers is February 15. Polling will be held between 9
am and 4 pm.
