The Telangana unit of the Congress is anticipating ‘more trouble from BRS’during TPCC chief Revanth Reddy’s ongoing ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo’ yatra. The party believes that ever since the TPCC president launched his Padyatra in Telangana, attempts have been made to create law and order problems.

Sources in the Congress said: “There could be more trouble for the Padayatra as the Congress would get considerable mileage during the course of the Padayatra and BRS might try to put a spoke in the wheel”.

According to Congress sources, the Padayatra is gaining girth in terms of participants and people from the OBCs and tribals. OBCs in Telangana are throwing their weight behind Revanth Reddy and the police need to arrange heavier bandobust measures. The sources cited the incidents that happened on Tuesday when tomatoes and eggs were hurled at Revanth Reddy during his Padyatra.

On Tuesday, in Bhupalapally, local BRS leader and municipal chairman Kotha Hari Babu, along with BRS cadre, allegedly attacked Congress workers who had been preparing the ground for Revanth Reddy’s Padayatra. The BRS cadre also prevented the Congress cadre from putting up hoardings of Revanth Reddy. Posters of Congress Padayatra were pulled down in a couple of areas. Sources called these as “nervous reactions”.

In another incident, on 20th February, just as Revanth Reddy’s padayatra concluded in the Warangal West Assembly constituency, Thota Pavan Kumar, a youth Congress leader, was brutally attacked. Congress leaders alleged that Thota Pavan suffered severe injuries due to the attacks, allegedly by BRS party workers. A complaint lodged at the HanamkondaPolice Station by Revanth Reddy, resulting in the arrest of four persons from the BRS party on charges of attacking youth Congress workers who had erected a banner, along with a chargesheet against BRS MLA D. Vinay Bhaskar.

Sources said that Minister K T Rama Rao had attacked the Congress in a recent public meeting, reflecting the traction the party was gaining. “Minister KTR has also been attacking Congress and its state president often, which is another instance to say that Congress has come to the fore”, sources said.

Revanth Reddy also been releasing chargesheets against local MLAs and Ministers during the Jana Sabha meeting everyday. “They got the ire of the incumbent legislators from the ruling party”, sources added.
