SAAP, DSA fail to provide sports materials for summer camps

With the support of the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) and Krishna District Sports Authority (DSA), summer coaching camps are being conducted at the Zilla Parishad High School for Boys at Gannavaram and Davajigudem. Around 100 students are taking part in the one-month summer coaching camps.

As part of these camps, students are taking training in kabaddi, fencing, handball, volleyball and other games. Physical Director (PD) at ZP High School, Gannavaram, Dhaniyala Nagaraju and Davajigudem High School PD Dasari Sri Harasha are giving training to students in the morning and evening.

Many students from Gannavaram, Kesarapalli, Davajigudem, Buddhavaram, Allapuram and surrounding villages are attending these coaching camps. SAAP and DSA conduct summer coaching camps every year to create awareness among sports and games in addition to education.

Under the able guidance of Krishna DSA Chief Coach Jhansi, Physical Director Nagaraju is organising the camp at the Boys’ High School at Gannavaram and Sri Harsha is organising it at Davajigudem.

Unfortunately, the SAAP and Krishna DSA failed to provide sports material for the coaching camps. Also, there were no diet facilities for the summer coaching trainers. As per the guidelines, the SAAP must be provided with a diet like eggs, and milk for the trainers in the morning, however, it has not been implemented so far.

According to the sports associations, the SAAP has not sanctioned the budget for conducting summer coaching camps. The SAAP must supply the sports materials to these camps through the respective DSAs, however, it was not done so far.

A majority of the students are coming from poor families, and they are unable to get the proper diet from their parents, sports association’s representatives said. Unless they provide a sufficient diet, players could play, they commented.

Speaking to The Pioneer, senior PD Nagaraju said that around 60 to 80 students were attending the summer coaching camp at the ZPH School at Gannavaram. Students should bring water from their houses. If SAAP or DSA or donors provide drinking water and diet to the students, they would perform well after completing the coaching camps, he added.

“As of now, there are no sports materials with us. We are giving training to students with used sports equipment. Most of the students belong to poor families and they are unable to buy balls. So, DSA could provide sports materials to give training to more students,” he said.
