Dr Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka, the Telangana Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare met Union Panchayat Raj Minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh and requested funds for the construction of permanent buildings for panchayats.
In Telangana, there are 12,769 panchayats across 540 rural mandals in 32 districts, of which 6,176 do not have permanent buildings, Seethakka pointed out.
She said that village panchayats operating out of temporary rental accommodations are unable to perform their duties. So she requested the Union Minister to sanction Rs 1,544 crore under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), that is, Rs 25 lakh per building for the construction of permanent buildings for 6,176 village panchayats.
The Union Minister responded positively to Sithakka’s request and assured funds for the construction of permanent buildings for village panchayats in Telangana.

The meeting took place on Tuesday at the Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi. Seethakka presented a replica of the Ashoka Pillar to Rajeev Ranjan Singh and congratulated him on recently assuming charge as the Union Panchayat Raj Minister and expressed her hope that his experience would contribute to the comprehensive development of village panchayats and bring about changes in the lives of rural people.

Seethakka said that Telangana is at the forefront of promoting decentralised governance through village panchayats and highlighted the need for permanent buildings to improve public services at the village level and to enhance basic infrastructure in rural areas.
