The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, expressed serious concern over the increasing trade in narcotics. He said that drugs are being sold to even young children, highlighting the alarming nature of the issue.
He called upon the police to take strong action against drug peddlers and called on the state government to grant the police full operational freedom to tackle the menace.
Sanjay was speaking while attending the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ event held at the TNGO Hall in Karimnagar. District Collector Pamela Satpathy, Commissioner Alam, former MLA Bodige Shobha and others also attended the function.
Addressing the gathering, Sanjay said, “Prime Minister Modi launched the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign in 2015 with the slogan ‘Save the girl child, educate the girl child.’
“Earlier, daughters were considered a burden, but now they are seen as a symbol of trust and strength, thanks to Modi’s efforts. We celebrate the birth of a girl with events like ‘Beti Janmotsav.’ Initiatives like ‘Selfie with Daughters’ promote awareness. A house without girls lacks vibrancy. Today, girls compete in education and employment, and our Collector Pamela Satpathy is a shining example of their achievements,” Sanjay said.
“Under Pamela’s leadership, 100 bicycles were distributed on Saturday, which is commendable. I will ensure that all girls moving from Class 9 to Class 10 in government schools receive bicycles through MP-LADS funds. Every hostel will be provided with washing machines using CSR funds. I will also try to enhance facilities at the Karimnagar Sports School using CSR funds or MP-LADS,” he said.
“Modi’s decisions have contributed substantially to women’s safety and development, helping to eliminate gender discrimination. Through ‘Mission Indradhanush,’ we are ensuring the health of pregnant women and infants by providing timely vaccinations and reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.
