Satellite launching, a fascinating process: ex-director of Chandrayaan1

In honour of National Space Day, VFSTR hosted a special lecture by Padma Shri recipient Dr. MYS Prasad, former director of the Chandrayaan-1 mission. The event, held at the Vignan University’s campus, attracted many students, faculty, and dignitaries.
Dr Prasad, serving as the chief guest, delivered an insightful lecture on “Satellite Launching,” sharing his extensive experience with the audience. He detailed the procedures and methodologies used in PSLV and GSLV satellite launches, emphasising the critical precautions necessary to ensure that satellites reach their designated orbits. He also discussed the various components of satellites, their weights, and the specific objectives they are designed to achieve.
Beyond the technical aspects of satellite launches, Dr Prasad explored the application of various engineering disciplines in space missions. He provided a comprehensive overview of space exploration, covering the operations of the International Space Station (ISS), the history of space stations, and the activities of their crews. The lecture also included insights into environment control and life support systems on the ISS, the design and function of space suits, crew training on Earth, and the research conducted in space.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr Lavu Rathaiah, Chairman of Vignans Educational Institutions, Vice-Chancellor Professor P. Nagabhushan, Registrar Dr. MS Raghunathan, along with deans, department heads, faculty members, and students.
