Justice prevailed as the Nampally Fast Track Court on Tuesday convicted DAV Public School driver to 20 years in jail and a fine of Rs 5,000, for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl LKG student. The convict, Ranjith Kumar was arrested on October 19, 2022 and the investigation was finished within 34 days with 19 witnesses cited.
On October 18, 2022, a four-year-old’s mother filed a complaint with the Banjara Hills Police, stating that the accused, Beemana Ranjith Kumar, had been sexually abusing her daughter for two months in the digital classroom of DAV School, with the negligence of the principal, Sivaraju Madhavi. The assault only came to light when the parents of the victim girl noticed changes in her behavior and questioned her. The minor then revealed her ordeal and identified the driver who committed the heinous act.
The incident immediately went viral as the public condemned the convict and the school over the social media. Ranjith Kumar was arrested and DAV School Principal Madhavi was also booked for alleged negligence in the case. A case was registered against Ranjith Kumar under Sections 364, 376 (a) (b) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO Act. The entire investigation was concluded in just 34 days, citing 19 witnesses. The IO filed the chargesheet before the Special Court, which conducted the trial against the accused persons.
The Fast Track POCSO Court however acquitted the principal, who was not found guilty of any wrong-doing.
The SHE Teams and Bharosa team counselled the victim, comforted her, and worked in tandem with the IO and other officers throughout the trial.
