Six of marriage party killed, 15 hurt as tractor overturns

In a tragic incident, six persons of a marriage party were killed and 15 others injured when the tractor-trailer, on which they were travelling, overturned at Lakshmaiahooru village in Puthalapattu mandal in the wee hours of Thursday.

Police said that 26 persons, including women and the bridegroom, were going to Jettipalli village for the marriage to be held on Thursday morning. The marriage of Bhuvaneswari was to be held with Hemantha Kumar.

When the tractor was descending a slope, its driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it veering off the road and overturning in a roadside ditch.

As many as 15 persons were injured in the incident and all of them were shifted to hospitals in Tirupati and Veluru. The accident took place about 2 km away from the marriage hall at Jettipalli after midnight.

Two kids, three women and the tractor driver were among the dead, police said. The police immediately rushed to the accident site and took up rescue operations. The police with great difficulty extricated the victims, who were struck under the overturned tractor trailer and shifted them to various hospitals later they were sent to SVIMS and Veluru CMC for better treatment.

Chittoor district M Harinarayan, SP Rishant Reddy, and Joint Collector Venkateswar visited the injured in the hospital and inquired with the doctors about their condition. Due to the accident and death of six persons, the marriage was cancelled, the family members of the victims said.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief over the death of six persons in a road accident. He asked the government to provide the best medical treatment to the injured and extend all needed help to the bereaved families.
