Samarth Swarup is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, and composer who has developed remarkable original songs, covers, and mashups for his YouTube channel, which has a large following. He recently debuted as a music director and lyricist for a Bollywood film. He has now released a new EP under T-Series.
Sama is a musical journey that transcends boundaries, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in a fusion of genres, cultures, and emotions.
An ecstatic Samarth, who is no less than overwhelmed with the response that he has received for the EP, shares in an exclusive chat with The Pioneer, “I’m thankful for the love that the audience has given to my EP Sama.” Speaking of Sama, he reveals that it’s a handpicked bunch of songs that he’s been working on for the last few years. “I initially planned to drop them as singles, but luckily I got to work with T-Series and package them all into an EP, and it turned out fabulous, and that’s how Sama happened. I’m sure the listeners can relate to these songs, as they are basically today’s sound and very modern. These have that kind of melody and something that lights up the listener, and they instantly relate to it. All the songs I have made sure have some sing-along vibe to them because they have such hooks that I have tried to curate around each song.”
The EP consists of four songs:
Dholna: This joyful and celebratory love song acts as an anthem for young love. It brilliantly combines a great melody with a catchy beat to highlight the beauty of pop music.
Lage Na Jiya: This composition is a love song for Samarth’s wife, reimagining traditional melodies and rhythms from a contemporary viewpoint. It was a gift from Samarth to his wife for their wedding in Jaipur in December. It has a particular place in Samarth’s heart and was the best dedication and gift he has ever given to his wife. This track has the potential to become the wedding song for Indian couples all around the world.
Mann Jugnoo: This is a contemplative and emotional piece about the depths of human experience. It transports listeners on a profound voyage of love, self-discovery, and inner reflection, using haunting melodies and expressive lyrics.
Kol Aaja: Carrying the global pop sound while being connected to the Indian melodic feel, this music challenges the boundaries of sound and genre. It’s a captivating combination of distinct parts held together by a sense of harmony and cohesiveness.
Describing his approach to the first track, he shares, “Dholna has a highly relatable tune in the hook lines, which I composed originally before progressively building the rhythms around them. As a writer and producer, I wanted Dholna to be a song that focused on the beats while also delivering a fantastic melody. Melody is always the essence of a song, while beats are its body. When paired with a groovy beat, it creates the ideal combination. So the melody came first, and then I composed the entire song.”
Then comes the most special song from his EP, Lage Na Jiya. Speaking of the same, he shares, “This song is about me and my wife, Isha. It was our song until its release, but now it’s being loved by the world. This is the story of me and my wife. I recently got married, and I wrote this song for her. I gave her a surprise, and I performed this song on our wedding day, and it’s that love song for us! After reading the comments on the song, I am extremely overwhelmed, and I’m happy that this song, which was our story, is now relatable.”
For him, it’s all about consistency and honesty, the two key elements that he also follows. There’s also another thing he stresses about: “The forever scholar attitude, which means that I’m always open to learning new things and always open to exploring new things. Music being such a big ocean and vast, you get to learn every single day. I also want to stress upon one thing, not just the music, but there are various other aspects, such as the music business, which is also very important.”
Taken aback by his journey, he shares that it’s a journey that he is going to cherish every time that he recalls and talks about it. “I have been a music junkie since forever, and it’s been a decade-long journey in the music field. I started doing music in school, then started making it full-time. The journey is still on, and it’s fascinating to imagine how it’s going to be in the near future. There’s still a long way, and I’m excited about what’s there for me,” signs off Samarth on a concluding note.
