Dr Naresh from Gandhi Hospital said, “Dehydration is another issue, with people experiencing dry and flaky skin due to excessive sweating. It can also cause other health problems if not addressed. Skin care is often viewed as a luxury but it should be a necessity. Climate change will affect everyone regardless of their socio-economic status.”

Doctors also said that the UV rays can penetrate the skin and cause damage to the DNA, which can further lead to skin cancer. However, skin cancer is not common in India as melatonin in Indian genes protects from extreme effects. But as heat intensifies, it could have more persisting effects on skin.

Experts advised taking precautions to protect the skin, including using a good quality sunscreen with a high SPF rating, wearing protective clothing, like hats and long-sleeved shirts, and drinking plenty of water and other fluids like coconut water, lemon water and buttermilk. They also recommend avoiding oily or heavy makeup and keeping the skin clean and hydrated.
