Under the MLAs quote, seven MLC candidates of the ruling YSRCP filed nominations on Thursday. Speaking in this connection, Advisor to Government (Public Affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that Social Justice was done by the YSRCP government in allocating seats to MLC candidates under MLAs quota like nowhere in the country.
Sajjala said that out of 18 MLC posts, 11 were given to BCs in adherence to the social engineering policy of CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The social engineering that has been implemented ever since Jagan tMohan Reddy ook the reins of the State has been seen in the selection of candidates for MLC candidates. “Since the beginning, social justice has been the policy of the YSRCP government and we have been implementing it sincerely. Out of the 18 MLC seats, 14 seats have been given to BC, SC and ST candidates. We are proud to say that we stick to what we have said,” he said.
He said that there are already four members from the Minority community in the Legislative Council which is also a record. Of the total 58 MLC seats, elections for 10 ( Graduates & Teachers MLC posts) will be held, and the strength of TDP fell to four in the remaining 48 seats. Out of 44 MLcs of YSRCP, 30 are given to BC, SC, ST and Minority members which is a historical development, said Sajjala.
He further said that social justice is already evident in district, mandal level and local bodies elections across the State. Ninety per cent of mayor, 70 per cent of ZP chairperson, 67 per cent of mandal president, and 72 per cent of municipal chairman posts were held by BC, SC, ST and Minorities.
Sajjala asked, “Why did not the TDP, which was in power till 2019, not do this? Because the TDP always considered the BCs as vote bank and Chandrababu should answer to the people.”
