Special rabies vaccination drive for high-risk groups

A meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Zoonosis Committee was held on Wednesday, chaired by Special Chief Secretary, Health Medical and Family Welfare, MT Krishna Babu. Commissioner of Health Medical and Family Welfare J Nivas and APVVP Commissioner Venkateswar also attended the meeting.

Addressing the committee members, Special CS Krishna Babu spoke to the team regarding the special drive of rabies vaccination for high-risk groups (municipal workers, veterinary lab staff etc.). He stated that the diagnostic facility of rabies at Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada and SVIMS Tirupati will be improved. The dashboard on Zoonotic diseases is available from the Animal Husbandry Department.

He said that vaccinations to dogs would be promoted through Animal Husbandry Hospitals by the Municipal Administration and the Panchayat Raj departments. The lifestyle of Zoonotic disease-affected people will be studied by the team of doctors from Siddhartha Medical College and NTR College of Veterinary Sciences. He instructed the officials to maintain the stock of anti-rabies vaccine in all the health facilities upto Primary Health Centers in the State.

All the officials from the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Animal Husbandry Department, NTR College of Veterinary Sciences, DG Drug Controller, Principal of Siddhartha Medical College, PR&RD Department, Forest Department, SVIMS Tirupati, NCDC Delhi and Jhpiego organization were present.
