Social Welfare Minister Merugu Nagarjuna has directed the officials to speed up the works undertaken with Rs 3853 crore in the SC and ST residential areas of the State as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme and to take all measures to prevent drinking water shortage during the current summer. He asked to provide drinking water to the people through tankers wherever required.
Minister Nagarjuna reviewed the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) on Monday and said that while there are 7917 SC residential areas in the state, 4852 of these residential areas already have complete drinking water facilities and they are providing 55 liters of water per day. The remaining 3065 residential areas have partial water supply, he said, and explained that the government is implementing the JJM scheme to provide drinking water to the required extent in all areas.
He said that Rs 1,326.55 crore has been sanctioned for 8911 works in SC and ST residential areas as part of the JJM scheme. While Rs 2,048 crore has been sanctioned for 9 works under JJM projects. For Jagananna housing layouts the government has sanctioned Rs 3,853 crore for a total of 19,614 works at the rate of Rs 478 crore for 10,694 layouts. He said that out of 8911 works related to JJM, 3,627 works have been completed and 5284 works are in progress. While all the works of the JJM project are in progress, 1622 works related to Jagananna housing layouts are in progress. After knowing the details of the ongoing tender process, the minister directed the officials to complete this process promptly and speed up the work related to the JJM scheme.
Kati Harshavardhan, Director of the Social Welfare Department, RV Krishna Reddy, Engineer-in-Chief of the Rural Water Supply Department (RWS) and other officials participated in the meeting.
