Sree Vishnu: My films have suffered due to the dominance of content over fun

Samajavaragamana, a family entertainer, is slated to hit cinemas tomorrow (June 29). Actor Sree Vishnu is buoyed that the film’s first premieres held on Monday were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience in many towns. Director Ram Abbaraju’s treatment has the potential to captivate the audience, as he suggests in this interview.

The film stars Reba Monica John as the heroine, the film also features Vennela Kishore, Sreekanth Iyengar, Raghu Babu, Rajeev Kanakala, and Devi Prasad. Razesh Danda of Hasya Movies has produced the movie, while Anil Sunkara of AK Entertainments is presenting it.

“The only purpose of the movie is to make the audience laugh. There is no other motto. Monday’s early premieres in AP were solid. The audience was in splits throughout. This is a very clean entertainer with no pretensions. The funny conversations are going to keep you in splits.”

The conflict plot point is unique. You will be surprised to know it when you watch it in theatres. The audience will surely find it unexpected. There are a few twists in the story. He continued, “In Hyderabad and other Telangana areas, we are planning premieres to be held on Wednesday. It was decided to hold the premieres all of a sudden on Sunday. The father-son duo in the movie try to gain an upper hand over each other. Their clash is humorous. The scenes involving me and VK Naresh garu are downright hilarious. Their equations are also slice-of-life. The younger sections of the audience will love Naresh garu’s repartees a lot. The heroine’s character is also funny in nature.”

The titles of some of his movies didn’t connect well with the audience. He thinks the title of this movie is different in that aspect. Everyone is going to like it. And, “The audience is expecting entertainment these days. Sometimes, content takes a dominating position and entertainment takes a backseat. At times, my films have suffered due to the dominance of content over fun. This movie gives precedence to comedy!” They could make the film as planned, thanks to the cooperation of the producer. A song that had to be done as a montage was shot in Muscat because the producer wanted it to be mounted on a lavish scale. Moreover, “I got to meet Chiranjeevi garu as part of the promotions. He told me he liked Brochevarevarura and Raja Raja Chora. I have mostly teamed up with new directors since the start of my career. The number of big stars has gone up, while the number of star directors is less. Star directors are busy with superstars. They are not in a position to make films with smaller stars. The budgets of my movies are pragmatic. My producers are always in a comfortable space.” He strongly believes that stardom is not in their hands. You never know how and from where stardom is going to come. Acting is what is in his hands; it is the more difficult thing.

“If you ask me which challenge I prefer to take up, I would say being an ‘actor’. I don’t hanker after stardom. I don’t miss out on listening to scripts. I always embrace new ideas. I comprehend the fate of a movie ahead of its release, having watched the first copy. Yet, I hold on to the movie and promote it whole-heartedly. Some of my films flopped for reasons that were out of my control. In the case of Alluri, I misjudged it. I felt that the audience would love an action movie from me. But it proved to be a misfire. Thippara Meesam and Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu had me in slightly negative roles. They both flopped.”

He produced Appatlo Okadundevadu and Needi Naadi Oke Katha. There were safe projects. They made money, but Sree didn’t know how to bring back his money from distributors. He realized that production was not his cup of tea! Presently, “I am doing a movie with UV Creations. Sree Harsha of Hushaaru fame is directing it. Rahul Ramakrishna and Priyadarshi are playing other important roles in it. I am doing a prequel to Raja Raja Chora. These are the two films that are on floors.”
