Minister for Prohibition and Excise and Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud has said that Akkamahadevi temple caves will be developed as a tourist centre for the benefit of the Lingayat community living in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
The Minister unveiled the Saint Basaweswara bronze statue at Basaveswara Bhavanin Tuvvagutta on Boyapalli road in Mahabubnagar district on Sunday.
Later, he released a book on Akka Mahadevi.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Minister said that the tourism department would implement development programmes in the Nallamala forest region and also in River Krishna to attract tourists, he said.
The BRS government was officially celebrating Basveswara Jayanti annually. The first-ever Basava Bhavan in the State was built on a 3,000-yard site on a grand scale. Also, a statue of Saint Basaveswara was installed on the Tank Bund Road.
Telangana government built Atma Gourava Bhavans, he said adding that the government works for weaker sections.
The BRS has been working hard to include Veera Saiva Lingayats in OBCs with the help of BRS MP BB Patil.
Backward Classes Commission member Subhabrata Patil, Municipal chairman KC Narsimhulu and other leaders were present.
