District Medical Health Officer, Dr B. Jagannadha Rao, has underscored the importance of a robust maternal foundation for maternal well-being and children’s health. His remarks came during his visit to the Neelammakalani Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC) in Palakonda town on Saturday, where he actively participated in the Prism 10 awareness program.
Addressing pregnant and lactating women, Dr. Jagannadha Rao shed light on the Prism 10 programs, elucidating their objectives and benefits. He urged expectant and nursing mothers to prioritize nutritional food and timely consumption of prescribed medicines, particularly emphasizing the importance of adhering to iron pill regimens. By doing so, he asserted, maternal mortality rates could be effectively curtailed.
Highlighting that Prism 10 is geared towards preventing the deaths of children under ten years of age, Dr Jagannadha Rao stressed the critical role of ensuring the child’s health right from the mother’s womb. He advocated for immediate registration of names post-conception and regular medical examinations throughout the pregnancy period.
Acknowledging the support from both central and state governments, Dr. Jagannadha Rao noted the provision of nutritious food, medicines, and various benefits aimed at fostering a healthy society. He called upon family members to actively cooperate in ensuring that pregnant and nursing mothers receive the essential nutrients, encouraging them to consume the provided food themselves. Dr Jagannadha Rao urged everyone to collectively take measures to prevent anaemia, thereby contributing to the overall health and well-being of mothers and their children in the community.
