With the aim of enhancing the market presence of Andhra Pradesh’s handloom and handicraft sectors, Special Chief Secretary RP Sisodia chaired a high-level review meeting on Friday with officials from the Handlooms and Textiles Department, APCO, Lepakshi and the Andhra Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board (APKVIB).

Sisodia stressed the urgent need for robust publicity strategies and the adoption of modern marketing tools, including digital outreach, to align with evolving consumer trends. He proposed setting up additional APCO and Lepakshi showrooms at major tourist destinations to attract a broader customer base.

A notable proposal included the immediate introduction of antique wood furniture under the Lepakshi brand, citing its high market potential. He also called for a new Lepakshi showroom in Tirumala to reflect the rich culture and traditions of Andhra Pradesh.

Highlighting the importance of grassroots innovation, Sisodia suggested promoting local design development in villages and instituting awards to recognise talented artisans. He also stressed value addition in existing product lines to increase appeal and profitability.

To address financial challenges, the Special Chief Secretary directed urgent recovery of bad debts from various government departments and recommended exclusive procurement of textiles through APCO.

Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles, Rekha Rani, provided updates on departmental initiatives. APCO and Lepakshi MD M Viswa appealed for greater support to strengthen outreach. APKVIB CEO VR Vijaya Raghava Naik and other senior officials also shared inputs.
