Submarine Day celebrated in Vizag

The 55th Submarine Day was commemorated on 08 December 2022 to mark the formation of Indian Navy’s submarine arm with the commissioning of it’s first submarine, erstwhile INS Kalvari, on 08 December 1967. The Commanding-in-Chief, Vice Adm Biswajit Dasgupta, AVSM, YSM, VSM conveyed his best wishes and appreciated the tenacity, professionalism and dedication of submariners.

A Wreath Laying Ceremony was held at the Submarine Cenotaph at INS Virbahu, the mother base of Indian submarines, which was commissioned on 19 May 1971. Rear Adm AY Sardesai, Flag Officer Submarines laid wreath to pay homage to submariners on ‘Eternal Patrol’ who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty to the nation. Rear Adm R Vijay Sekhar, NM. Project Director Ship Building Center also paid homage.

The ceremony was attended by COMCOS(E). Commanding Officer Satavahana, Commanding Officers of submarines and Officers-in- charges of associated units.
