Swaminathan interested to see TS agriculture progress

Father of Green Revolution, Professor MS Swaminathan evinced interest in visiting Telangana to witness the progress made in agriculture.

Minister for Agriculture Singireddy Niranjan Reddy’s team met Father of Green Revolution Prof MS Swaminathan at his residence in Chennai Ratnanagar and later visited Swaminathan Research Foundation. As per the press release, Swaminathan said that he would come to see Telangana and witness the progress in agriculture.

Niranjan Reddy said, “We have explained the agricultural achievements of Telangana in nine years under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. It is with his inspiration that we are implementing pro-farmer policies. We brought to his attention the schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima, 24 hours free electricity, irrigation, mode of procurement of crops, necessity of cultivation of alternative crops and Rythu Vedikas”.

They spoke about 20 major schemes implemented by Telangana government that have influenced humanity by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

“I know all the things,” he said, having previously served as FAO chairman. Niranjan was accompanied by State Agriculture Secretary Raghunandan Rao, MD Kesavulu of Seed Development Corporation and Digital Media Director Dileep Konatham.

Even at the age of 98, his great memory is amazing. Prof Swaminathan said that he had met Agriculture Secretary in the past when he was introduced to Raghunandan Rao.

Swaminathan said that he will come to Telangana and take a look when his health betters.

Niranjan said, “We feel that it is a great blessing that at the age of 98 he himself said that he will come to Telangana.

I feel lucky to have met Swaminathan, the father of the agricultural revolution, as the Agriculture Minister of Telangana under the leadership of Chief Minister KCR.

He was the pioneer of agricultural extension, education and technology”

In 2004, Swaminathan, who headed the Agriculture Commission under the UPA government, suggested that India is a country that meets the needs of the world and not just the needs of India. Farmers’ income should increase and their income should be stable.
