Central GST Commissioner (Audit Wing) P Anand Kumar has asked the consumers to demand the receipt from the traders after purchasing goods.
Commissioner (Auditing Wing) P Anand Kumar on Monday inaugurated the newly established Commissioner’s Chamber in the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Central Tax Audit Circle on ICICI Bank’s Madras stand in the city. Talking to the media on the occasion, Commissioner Anand Kumar said that he took charge as the Auditing Wing Commissioner on August 12 and took steps to strengthen their Auditing Wing in the state after visiting the field.
He said that the Central GST Auditing Wing has offices in Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Nellore and Tirupati and offices will soon be set up in Anantapur and Kurnool.
He stated that they are conducting auditing in all the offices under their jurisdiction this year. They have to complete GST auditing in more than 500 officers. He made it clear that if it is found in their auditing that taxes have been evaded or taxes have been underpaid due to wrong calculations, no matter who they ignore, the traders who have collected taxes from the people must pay the government, and there is no need to compromise on this.
He maintained that the Government of India introduced a uniform Goods and Services Tax (GST) system across the country in 2017 intending to provide better services to the people. He said that before the introduction of the GST system, there were only 70 lakh taxpayers in the country, but now that number has doubled to 1.40 crores as a result of the GST system.
He further said that due to the increase in the number of taxpayers through the GST system, the amount of tax payments has decreased. The GST will play a vital role in making India the third largest economy in the world which is coming up as the target of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The Commissioner stated that his department is working to increase the number of taxpayers and participate in the development of the country by making more traders and companies pay taxes more easily through the GST system.
He explained that the amount paid by the people through GST plays a major role in the implementation of welfare schemes that improve the economic status of the people such as roads, bridges, ports, airports and other infrastructure needed by the people.
He recalled that huge sums of money were allocated to the state government in the budget for development and to implement welfare schemes and the money was mobilized through the GST.
