Former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar has said that Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu’s life as the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh was a symbol of the Andhra people’s self-respect and was very exemplary. In honor of Prakasam Pantulu’s 152nd birth anniversary celebrations, “Andhrakesari – Tanguturi Memorial” programme was organised at Tummalapally Kalakshetra under the auspices of Malladi Venkata Subbarao Sundaramma Charitable Trust.
State Planning Board Vice-Chairman, Central MLA Malladi Vishnu presided over the programme, Minister Adimulapu Suresh, West MLA Vellampalli Srinivas and eminent people from various fields participated.
On this occasion, Undavalli said that many freedom fighters like Ayyadevara Kaleswara Rao, including Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, came into politics and continued their service to the people. In those days all political leaders lived and loved poverty with the inspiration of Mahatma Gandhi. But it is a great thing that Prakasam Pantulu, who was born in poverty, left the profession as a lawyer and spent his earnings for the country and the poor. He wished the present youth to excel by taking the sacrifices, bravery, and fighting spirit of that great man as an example.
Minister Adimulapu Suresh said that it is commendable that such a good programme has been organized under the auspices of Malladi Venkata-subbarao Sundaramma Charitable Trust. He said that the Andhras had a great role in the freedom struggle. Tanguturi became a nickname for the selfless sacrifice of the people of Andhra. He glorified Tanguturi’s bravery who fought against the British Simon Commission. He said that his services as the Chief Minister of Madras United State and as the first Chief Minister after the formation of Andhra Pradesh State will not be forgotten.
Former Minister Vellampalli Srinivas said that Prakasam Panthu, who was born in a very ordinary family, rose step by step and reached a high level. He said that Tanguturi Prakasam Pantu was very exemplary in the pursuit of independence and governance.
Malladi Vishnu thanked Undavalli Arun Kumar who immediately agreed to give a memorial lecture on Andhra Kesari. It is said that Prakasam Pantulu has an inseparable bond with the city of Vijayawada. In 1952, during the heavy floods, he fought in the parliament and started building a barrage on the Krishna river with government funds. He said that in 1954 when he laid the foundation stone for the construction of the barrage in the capacity of CM, the barrage was named after him.
He commented that the state government is working under the leadership of CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inspired by the ideals of that great man and is following his path.
