Tarun Tahiliani’s Flagship Boutique Launches in the ‘Garden City’

Must read

Designer Tarun Tahiliani announced the launch of his eponymous label’s flagship Bangalore boutique, at the heart of the city’s verdant central business district in a lovingly and painstakingly restored heritage mansion – the Woodlands Mansion.

Tarun has collaborated with Bangalore’s preeminent doyenne of all things interior design – the peerless Vinita Chaitanya – to learn the art of simple, elegant and sensitive restoration of the structure.

A tribute to Tarun Tahiliani’s signature ‘India Modern’ design philosophy, the new boutique in Bangalore features original tiled floors, stone mosaics, handmade carpets and a ‘Tree of Life’ wall, featuring embroideries that represent the finesse of the ateliers’ style.

For the Saturday launch, Tarun planned a spectacular sensory assault that featured a colossal LED screen streaming a brand ‘stream-of-consciousness’ video. Placed in front, there were dancers and models, forming moving installations in an inimitable TT ‘India Modern’ flow. Additionally, the percussionists and dancers swirled in an animated jugalbandhi of harmony to Ma Faiza’s emotional and moving tracks that she had compèred for Tarun’s 25th-anniversary brand video.

In addition, four master craftsmen were showing live techniques behind the creation of various Tarun Tahiliani brand pillars within the boutique – chikankari, zardozi on the frame, the fine art of draping, and the soldering techniques used in the label’s high-fashion; each an education in itself and a joy to watch – the painstaking and breath-taking journey to creation!

The entire range of Tarun Tahiliani for both men and women – including couture, ready-to-wear, occasion-wear, accessories, jewellery and heritage textiles

– were showcased across the multiple salons of the sprawling 4,500 sq. ft. mansion.

Speaking about the launch of his new Bangalore flagship store, Designer, Tarun Tahiliani said, “sample the range and breadth of the collections – each in its own dedicated space, to be viewed by itself – drapes, the fashion collections, the menswear room, and of course, the SARIBAR, and accessories room. At the centre of all this is the aangan or courtyard, literally wrapped by a painted banyan, with motifs from our embroidery studios. This is the couture/bridal core of the brand”

“It is a delight to be in Bangalore at last and the tree in the aangan of the store is symbolic of the garden city, with its diverse energy. Home to so much textile heritage, technology, heralding a new age of style and a modern way of life,” he added.
