In commemoration of the birth anniversary of Jyotirao Govindrao Phule, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) orchestrated a grand ‘Jai Ho BC’ public meeting, drawing fervent support and fervour from the local populace and political dignitaries alike.
M Sribharath, the Telugu Desam Party’s nominee for the Visakhapatnam parliamentary seat, along with Kolla Lalithakumari, the party’s Assembly candidate for S Kota, seized the moment to energise supporters and outline the core tenets of the BC declaration.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Sribharath embarked on a journey through the annals of TDP’s legacy, paying homage to late NT Rama Rao’s visionary leadership, which paved the way for Backward Classes (BCs) to ascend to various echelons of governmental responsibility. He lauded the ongoing efforts of Chandrababu Naidu in sustaining this momentum of empowerment, citing the establishment of specialised empowerment committees catering to the diverse sub-castes within the BC community.
Central to Sribharath’s discourse was the unveiling of the “BC Declaration,” a comprehensive manifesto outlining 10 pivotal measures aimed at fostering the holistic development and welfare of BCs across the region. Notable provisions of this declaration include a monthly pension of ?4,000 for BCs aged 50 and above, the enactment of a dedicated legislation similar to the SC and ST Act to safeguard BC interests, and the allocation of a staggering ?1.50 lakh crore over five years towards a BC sub plan geared towards economic uplift and empowerment.
Furthermore, the declaration encompasses initiatives ranging from the revival of industrial incentives to facilitate employment opportunities for BCs, to the restoration of educational schemes including the transformation of residential schools into junior colleges across all Assembly segments. Sribharath also emphasised support for BC students pursuing foreign education and the revival of fee reimbursement schemes to enable them to pursue post-graduate courses.
Echoing Sribharath’s sentiments, Kolla Lalitha Kumari, candidate for the S. Kota Assembly seat, underscored the importance of the BC Declaration in safeguarding the rights and interests of BCs, particularly in the realm of local governance. She affirmed the commitment of the TDP to restore the reservation quota for BCs in local bodies to 34 per cent, lamenting its reduction to 24 per cent under the previous administration.
The Jai Ho BC rally witnessed an overwhelming turnout of supporters and leaders from the TDP, BJP, and Jana Sena, underscoring the collective resolve and solidarity towards advancing the cause of BC welfare and empowerment.
