The Telangana Junior Doctors Association on Tuesday wrote a letter to Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha regarding the payment of stipends.
The JUDA also highlighted that the private medical colleges have not being paying stipends to the resident doctors stating that it is a violation of the rules set by the National Medical Council. It also highlighted the need for a new building for the Osmania General Hospital.
“We hope this letter finds you in good health. We are willing to bring to your attention in few matters of great concern pending stipends and regularisation: Sir, Junior Residents, Senior Residents and Super-Speciality Residents are working tirelessly without any stipends since September. Most of the residents and their families are going through a financial crisis because of this delay. We kindly request you to look into this issue and propose for a permanent solution for regularisation of stipends like the regular doctors who get their salaries on 10th of every month. We need stipends every month on a set date every month; 2. New Building for Osmania: Sir, Osmania General Hospital was once a glory of the State. People from the whole State and different states come to this hospital looking for the cure of their ailments. They still do. The hospital has a huge manpower to serve the people, but sadly it doesn’t have a proper building or infrastructure. It is high time that the government takes a step to build a new building for Osmania for the people of Telangana.”
“Stipends for Private Medical College Residents: Sir, Private medical colleges have been violating the rules of NMC for years now. Private Medical Colleges are suppose to pay stipends for their post-graduates according to NMC guidelines which they failed to do so. Instead college managements have been threatening to fail the post-graduates who ask for their rights. We therefore request you to look into these issues and do needful,” read the letter.
