Minister for Finance T Harish Rao poked fun at Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he is billed to inaugurate the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bibinagar during his forthcoming visit to the State though the institution has been functioning for the last four years.
Addressing a meeting at Sadasaivapet on Thursday, the Minister said, “The Prime Minister is coming to Telangana to break a coconut to mark the inauguration of a medical college which has been functioning for the last four years.”
It is a part of BJP’s publicity gimmick to give the impression that it has been doing so service for the people.
In sharp contrast to the gimmicks being resorted by the BJP, the Telangana government has been carrying out several developmental activities.
The Telangana government has increased the number of medical colleges in the State from five to 26 during the last nine years. Eight of those medical colleges were already opened last year and nine more medical colleges would state functioning from this academic year, Harish Rao pointed out.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s visionary leadership helped increase the number of medical colleges in the State. The Chief Minister, in fact, has aimed to establish one medical college in each district.
The Minister expressed happiness over the Kanti Velugu (eye screening) programme completing the screening of one crore people in just 50 days.
A total of 1,500 teams were constituted for eye screening in the State. The government has so far distributed 29 lakh eyeglasses, he said.
Zilla Parishad Chairperson P Manjusri, Commissioner for Health Swetha Mohanty and District Collector A Sharat were present.
