All South Asian countries are looking at Telangana’s Buddhavanam due to its vast potential as a wedding destination, said Minister for Tourism, Culture, Excise & Prohibition Jupally Krishna Rao. He was the chief guest at the Telangana Chamber of Events Industry (TCEI) at the Tourism Plaza Hotel on Sunday.
The TCEI, which is India’s largest regional events industry association announced the Edition 3 of the South Indian Wedding Planners Congress and Edition 3 of TCEI SIWPC GLOBAL 2024 and 7th TCEI Event Excellence Awards 2024, on June 14 and 15 at the Hall 4 of Hitex Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Rao said, particularly Hyderabad, has become a hub for destination weddings. However, the current venues are mostly limited to Hyderabad and its surroundings, with all city resorts fully booked during the wedding season. Many people from across the country come to Hyderabad to celebrate weddings amidst its scenic beauties.
Rao pointed out the potential of Nagarjuna Sagar, the largest irrigation project spread over 2 lakh acres, with its scenic beauty, viewpoints and the historic Buddhavanam, which is rich in the history of Mahayana Buddhism and is significant to many Asian countries that embrace Mahayana Buddhism.
He stated that the Telangana government will provide strong support. Many Indians are currently planning weddings abroad, spending millions. Rao mentioned his Kollapur constituency, with the Krishna river backwaters, lush greenery, hill areas and access to Srisailam by boat, as another wonderful wedding destination.
Rao also said that there have been issues with conducting and planning destination weddings due to tourism being a neglected subject for the past 10 years. However, the Congress government is now focusing on making Telangana a global tourism hub and a key destination for weddings.
He added that Telangana has immense potential in various tourism sectors and that the government will promote wedding destinations, inviting investors to develop tourist and destination spots, thereby creating more employment opportunities.

According to the President of TCEI, Alla Balaram Babu, the 3rd TCEI SIWPC GLOBAL 2024 will bring together experts from the Indian wedding industry. The event aims to highlight South India’s contribution to weddings and provide a platform for collaboration. Renowned speakers will deliver sessions, allowing delegates to learn from industry experts and exchange ideas. He stated that around 700+ delegates from India and abroad are expected to participate in this event.
